Sweet, heartbreaking, semi-autobiographical and very funny. Junior’s difficult journey from his family troubles on the rez to success and acceptance at an all white school is beautifully rendered. There are many good reasons why this book has been on the NYT best seller list for years. What’s truly heartbreaking is that in the 9 years since publication, nothing seems to have changed for indigenous kids. Native Americans remain the most deprived group in America.
