YA spec fic amazement (II): The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf

9781406353396

Isn’t that a stunning cover? Written by indigenous Australian author Ambellin Kwaymullina (Kwaymullina is from the Palyku People of the Pilbara region), Ashala Wolf is  full of twists and turns, with elements of Dreamtime myths  and issues of social justice and incarceration of ‘illegals’ woven in to a pacy narrative. A great one for fans of Holly Black’s White Cat and sequels. Set in a dystopian future after The Reckoning, kids with special abilities (Firestarters, Rumblers, Skychangers) are rounded up and placed in detention centres with collars of a special metal that takes their abilities away. There are also two sequels that I can’t wait to read. 12+
