Middle School Heists: The Great Greene Heist

Varian Johnson’s Great Greene Heist is smart, funny and totally the thing for those too-cool-for-school 10-12 year olds who’ve outgrown ‘kids books’ but aren’t really into YA yet. Also, it’s really smart about race. The omniscient voice lets us into Jackson Greene’s head, a  kid  aware of how some see him (the digs at the school secretary mixing up the names of kids of the same ethnic background are very funny) but so confident of his position in the school hierarchy that he can pull off one daring heist after another. 10+
