To Dance: a ballerina’s graphic novel

71241

This book is the gorgeously illustrated memoir of a young dancer born in Puerto Rico who ended up at the School of American Ballet. Siena danced on stage with some of American Ballet Theatre’s greatest dancers in 80s NYC, but this memoir doesn’t shy away from her family’s struggles, telling it like it is right through to the injury that ended her dancing career and her subsequent recovery. The story is real and heartfelt and the illustrations by Mark Siegel (who is also the director of First Second) are so, so pretty. A must for all your tiny dancers. 7+
