Sita’s Ramayana

Sita’s Ramayana is a stunning retelling of the original Ramayana in the form of a graphic novel, with Sita (the abducted princess at the heart of the story) telling the tale from her viewpoint–imagine the Trojan War, told by Helen. The art is  colourful, stylised and beautiful and the afterword tells of the story’s journey from Patua scroll painting  to published book and touches on the fact that the Ramayana, originally an orally told epic has many different written versions, including those of Chandrabati, a 16th C woman writer. Children of 8+will  love this, but it’s a story for everyone and it comes from the wonderful Chennai-based Tara Books–truly every one of their books is a work of art.
